Original company name in German is System Analyse Programmentwicklung which in English is System Analysis Program Development. The legal commercial name is SAP SE which stands for Societas Europea, a public company registered in agreement with the European Union corporate law. Christian Klein is the youngest CEO of any major enterprise on Germany’s DAX blue chip market index, heads up the Executive Board of SAP SE at age of 41.

Old business models frequently decentralise data operation where each business function storing its operational data in a separate database. It bring difficulties for workers from different business functions to access across other’s information. Likewise, it can produce data duplication across multiple departments which increases IT storage costs and risk of data errors.

SAP software offers multiple business functions and data centralization with a single view of the truth. It helps companies better manage complex business processes by giving workers of different departments easy access to real-time insights across the enterprise. As a result, businesses can accelerate workflows, improve operational efficiency, raise productivity, enhance customer experiences and eventually increase profits.

SAP headquartered in the south of Germany, Walldorf and the company is listed in Frankfurt and New York stock market. It is a market leader in business software with more than 440,000 customers in more than 180 countries and 107,415 employees worldwide (as of December 31, 2021). 80% of SAP customers are small and midsize companies.

Total revenue in 2021 was €27.84 billion, including €9.4 billion from its cloud business (which is expected to reach more than €22 billion by 2025). SAP cooperate with about 22,700 partners and builds software solutions for 25 industries. In 2021, the headcount in research and development equaled 30% of the total headcount. SAP operates more than 100 development locations worldwide, including 20 SAP Labs development centers and 17 Co-Innovation Labs.

Currently, SAP customers generate 87% of total global commerce ($46 trillion). SAP customers are 99 of the 100 largest companies in the world. SAP customers who using S/4HANA are 85 of the 100 largest companies in the world.

In light of the worsening climate crisis, decreasing its own environmental impact is at the top of SAP’s sustainability agenda. The company aims to become carbon neutral in its own operations by 2023, two years earlier than previously planned.
